AUSTRALIA'S CANNES JURORS CONFIRMED: JAMES 'BIG AD' McGRATH ON FILM JURY, SCOTT WHYBIN ON PRESS

News just in from Fairfax's Martin Curnow that the following Australians have been confirmed as judges for this year's Cannes Lions:
Film: James McGrath, George Patterson Y&R, Melbourne (below left)
Press: Scott Whybin, Whybin TBWA, Sydney (above left)
Radio: Mike Edmonds, Meerkats Brand Communications, Perth
Direct: Dave King, M&C Saatchi, Sydney
Cyber: Matt Cumming, M&C Saatchi, Sydney
Media: Gary Hardwick, IKON Communications, Sydney
The Promo juror is still to be confirmed.
And of course, Warren Brown, creative partner of BMF Sydney was confirmed as Australia's representative on the Cannes Titanium jury several weeks back.

Ted Horton, a nominee for the Film Jury gig emailed CB this quote: "It's a win/win for Australian advertising. Scott and James will do a great job and anyone thinking of entering a spot without a jingle can rest a whole lot easier.
"Seriously, I'm genuinely happy for Scott - he should've judged years ago.
And as for James, he's done a great job and his agency is tres hot and
deserve to be represented."

Meanwhile, in New Zealand...
...while not confirmed, the word is that the New Zealand Film Juror this year will be Nick Worthington, ECD of Publicis Mojo, New Zealand. The DM juror is likely to be Matty Burton, senior creative at Saatchi & Saatchi, Auckland (when he was at The Glue Society, Sydney, he won a Titanium Lion last year and the DM Grand Prix the year before, both for Virgin Mobile). And last but not least, New Zealand is tipped to get a Titanium Jury member, likely to be Tom Eslinger, CD of Saatchi Interactive, Auckland.

Scott hasn't done an ad in 12 years, James has done one in 20 years, the bloke no one has ever heard of from perth has done nothing in a lifetime.......Just how do these things work?
I'd rather we had no judge at all than some Fairfax dream.

Go easy. Scott has had a handicap. He's been drunk.

Mike Edmonds is a good choice as radio juror, and he knows his stuff. If you haven't heard of him, then that's your problem.

Scott and James are jurors because they've CD'd some bloody good work over the years. Look it up in the annuals if you've forgotten.

These guys are there to judge other people's work. As successful CD's, you'd reckon they'd be more than capable of doing just that.

Or would you rather some 26 year-old with a book full of recent scammy ambient shit and a couple of DPS's that the client never paid for judging the most important show in the world?

Whatever. That doesn't excuse the photo. That baby is now old enough to be one of ton the Cannes jury.

Ok, I'll give you Scott and James have done good work when dinosaurs ruled the earth.

Please direct me to the accolades afforded the perth token regional guy, Matt Cumming and the other unknown.

Page numbers please.

Since when did a great creative director have to be the world's best creative? Many people think David Droga is the best CD in the world, how many great ads has he written? You're just jealous little no names who couldn't CD your way out of a paperbag - I think Scott and James are great choices.
