Lest We Forget

At precisely 2pm Thursday afternoon NZST ( mid-way through the
legendary lunch at Rocco) the New Zealand advertising industry will
observe a minute's silence in memory of all the truly legendary work
that didn't make it this year - due to fear, foolishness or marketing
department relocation to Sydney.

We ask all expats living in Australia to synchronise watches and join
us at the appropriate time.

At the conclusion of the minute, bugler Michael Lynch will play the
Last Post and bells will ring out across Ponsonby, Parnell and
selected pockets of the CBD.

During your self-indulgent observance repeat over and over to yourself - Advertising is not art.
Advertising is not art.
Advertising is not art.
Advertising is not art.
Advertising is not art.

Why a minute's silence? Walking around with your head up your own arse all day everyday, it would already be fairly quiet, wouldn't it? Apart from the distant rumbling caused by the violent expulsion of your own hot air, of course.

You Aussies have such a great sense of humor. And the same empathy for irony as Americans. (I used the American spelling to make y'all feel more at home, y'all.)

Time for a reality check.

You're not artistes. You are employed by a company to flog another company's wares.

Clients are your masters and not merely an obstruction to your self-expression. If you want to do that unhindered, leave the industry and buy an easel. Then there will be no fear, fools or financial issues to hold you back.

Actually now that I think about it, for the benefit of the world at large maybe you should continue to exist neck deep in your own rectums.
